Who (and What) is CoolCat Yoga

Shortly after moving to Provincetown, Massachusetts nearly 20 years ago, Jamie and Marek embarked on a different type of journey -- into the world of yoga. Both arrived to yoga with a love and appreciation for other types of movement, Jamie's creative and motion energy flowed through gymnastics and Marek expressed himself through dance for many years. Today, at the edge of the world on the tip of Cape Cod, Marek and Jamie have created a warm, soothing environment that embraces and nourishes every person that joins them in their daily yoga class.

Jaime and Merek

Marek comes to yoga with a playful, childlike perspective (actually, a precocious child) - looking at the world through innocent eyes not usually found in adults. Marek's perspective on yoga? "It's cool even if you can only move your head around." Marek can often be heard offering his personal insights during class, sharing his philosophy on various aspects of yoga and life! Being serious about yoga doesn't have to mean being heavy - you can be light, have fun. Play mindfully.

Marek"s yoga classes are not overly concerned with strict adherence to postures and poses. Marek teaches class with the perspective that he is there to provide students with guidelines and a good example, but the actual movement is personal and unique to each individual student. Marek suggests and explains -- it's up to each of them how far--they move.

Marek's style is warmly complemented by that of his wife and cohort in happiness, Jamie. While the energy of "mindful play" runs strongly through Marek's yoga practice, Jamie's primary tool for guiding students on their yoga journey is another powerful form of energy: our breath.

Jamie believes that breath -- inhaling, exhaling, in, out, consciously inhaling -- is a key to receiving the most desirable benefits of yoga and deep internal change. Jamie is passionate about breathing and reminds students that breath helps us reorganize from the inside, to know it's about us, not about the teacher. We need to breathe, and breathe well better than most people usually do today. We need breath because, like food, it nourishes our bodies and souls. Breath makes us juicy! Jamie's wish is that students who join in her class will experience some of the many ways in which yoga fertilizes the body and will feel the space growing within them so the petals of their souls can flourish.

Marek and Jamie use a similar structure in the flow of their classes: warm-up stretches, poses, a sequence of poses (Vinyasas) and closing with relaxation. Jamie and Marek welcome students of all abilities to class -- from newcomers to other highly experienced teachers and students. We hope you'll join us soon -- from May through December in Provincetown and at our Mexican retreat in February.
